Props to JP from Show Me Sports for the report. Edmond Oklahoma d-back Xavier Smith has committed to Mizzou. JP's got the story.

"I committed" was a text that Xavier Smith sent me a few minutes ago.

Smith made an unofficial visit to Missouri yesterday and I wrote an artcile detailing his thoughts on the visit. This morning he had realized he knew what he wanted to do.

"This morning I just knew I had to commit. It just felt like home." said Smith after alerting me that he had indeed committed to the Missouri Tigers. "If I didn't commit it felt like I would be missing out on the best opportunity I could ask for. They really have it all."

The 5`11' 175lbs Smith earned a scholarship offer after having a great camp in Kansas City at the Tigers one day camp. On that day he ran a 4.47 forty and vertical jumped 37" while also displaying great agility,athleticism and defensive back skills.

Smith turned down several offers, including interest from Okie State and Oklahoma.

NCAA 10 rosters are out

Few football video games in recent memory have provoked the kind of mixed reaction as NCAA Football '10 has evoked. One contingent of gamers swears the game is as strong as ever and lauds the new Season Showdown and Teambuilder features. But the other side argues the game has only marginally improved (if that) from the last several versions of the game. They say the game has grown stale and are waiting for the release of Madden to get their virtual football fix.

I'm still in the undecided camp. And I need your help to decide which game to go with this season. Understand that NCAA has been my game for damn near close to a decade. I've never been a huge Madden fan. In fact, I've always thought the game was fairly overrated. But I played the NCAA 10 demo and was definitely not a fan. And I like what I've read about Madden. I have absolutely no idea what to do.

So please vote in the poll to your right. Is NCAA 10 worth buying or should I wait for the release of Madden? You decide.

And in case you're not as conflicted as I am and are already rolling with NCAA 10, Lanteri87 has the rosters finished for the XBox 360 version. I can't vouch for them but they've gotten positive reviews over at Operation Sports. And buckeye02 has the rosters for PS3. Both rosters only have updated names, the ratings have been left as EA Sports originally had them.

And I'll go ahead and include this since it's what comes up on a google image search for "NCAA 10."

Rodriguez brothers arrested

A former Kansas University football starter and his brother, a current KU player, were arrested after an early morning bar fight Saturday.

Cesar Rodriguez, 24, and Jose Rodriguez, 21, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery.

A little before 2 a.m. the Lawrence Police Department was called to the Cadillac Ranch, 2515 W 6th St., about a fight.

The Rodriguez brothers, who were doormen at the bar, had forcibly removed a patron from the bar, police said. The patron was later transported by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Cesar Rodriguez was a four-year starter at offensive tackle for KU from 2004-2007.

Jose Rodriguez, a senior, is a reserve offensive lineman for the Jayhawks.

Missouri to play Texas Pan American

In my ongoing effort to reveal the entire Mizzou non-con before Mizzou releases the schedule, I have discovered that the Tigers will face Texas Pan Amercan in one of the two early round games in Columbia for the South Padre Island Invitational.

I discovered this when I found out through a google lookup that Tex. Pan. Am. was in the tournament, and remembered both ODU and Richmond had already revealed their two "early round" games against the four non-hosts. Because TPA wasn't an opponent of either, they have to be one of ours (as well as Miss State).

The other, by the way, will be against Longwood or Bethune Cookman -- haven't figured that out yet. It is NOT a bracketed deal in Columbia, again. Once either school or Miss State releases their schedule, I'll be able to figure it out.

As noted before, once we get to South Padre, we will play Old Dominion and then either Miss State or Richmond.

So, our non-con schedule as now:

Jimmy McKinney works out for the Cardinals

A few weeks ago we linked to Bryan Burwell's column about former Mizzou basketball player Jimmy McKinney getting offered a tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals by Tony La Russa. Over the weekend McKinney worked out with the team at Busch Stadium and it sounds like he did fairly well.

Burwell again summarizes what happened over the weekend. Sounds like the worst thing going against Jimmy is the fact that he's already 25 and hasn't played baseball in close to a decade. But whether he makes it or not it's a pretty cool story. And man is it weird seeing him in Cards' gear.

Ran across a few links this weekend that I found worthy of passing along. If you only read one thing from this post please skip to the final bullet about Joe Ganz. Hysterical stuff there at the end.

First, one I found over at Rock M. The Joplin Globe has a pretty decent story on Kim English and Laurence Bowers teaming up with kU's Mario Little and Elijah Johnson to help out at a basketball camp it Pittsburgh, Kan. Pretty cool other than the fact that they were helping out at the Jeff Boschee Basketball Clinic. I can only assume Jeff teaches kids at his camps how to play with oversized T-shirts underneath their jerseys and how to completely shave their heads. There is no amount of money I wouldn't pay to see Kimmeh punch this little shit in the mouth. He could actually be a nice guy for all I know but I despised this kid when he was a beaker.

And am I the only one who takes issue with this quote from Little? "They accomplished their goal by making it to the Elite 8. We didn't accomplish our goal. We won the Big 12 but we weren't satisfied." Umm...pretty sure Kimmeh has been pretty clear about what this team's goal is. Mario obviously isn't following Kim on Twitter. No word on if Mario even knows what Twitter is.

ESPN's Ron Franklin is "98.5 percent" sure that he is retiring after 2009-10 college football and basketball seasons. First off, that's a really percentage to tell someone. But I will really miss Ron. It's going to be weird hearing Fran Fraschilla constantly repeating some other broadcast partner's name throughout the telecast.

And finally, the reason I hope you're still reading this post. Last Thursday former Nebraska QB Joe Ganz was interviewed on an Omaha sports radio show called "Unsportsmanlike Conduct with Kevin and Mike'L." The show broadcasts 1620 AM in Omaha. You can listen to the clip in its entirety here. It's from the July 16th show and it's segment 9. If you don't want to listen to the entire clip (I wouldn't recommend it) I have the humorous part transcribed below.

After being asked if he like his odds of making the Buffalo Bills roster Ganz replied, "Yeah I mean I do, it's just uhh, you know it just comes down to it's pretty political. So a numbers thing and it kind of has to be the right situation and the right time. And you never really know what they're thinking because I thought I had a great shot at Washington but it just came down to a numbers thing. You know after I saw how Chase was doing I thought there's now way that they're going to release me and keep him, but they already signed him to a deal and all that kinda worked out so you never really know. It's tough because it's not just about football. There's a lot of other things that go into it but it's as good a shot as any so..."

One of the hosts of the show (not sure if it was Kevin or Mike'L) thought that cheap shot at Chase was pretty clever and proceeded to tell Ganz as much, "What I do like is how you took the shot at Chase. That was good. That was a well placed Missouri shot. Thank you."

Ganz admitted that he has to find some place to take shots at Mizzou since he obviously wasn't ever able to do it on the football field. "You know, we gotta start taking our shots sometime," Ganz said.

The host of the show assured Ganz that Nebraska's time to knock Missouri off its Big 12 North throne has come because, as anyone who knows a Husker fan can attest to, NEBRASKA'S BACK!!! BO PELINI IS JESUS CHRIST! BIG RED!!! SDJFAKLJFALK$#Q$!@JKLJSAFDJLK!!!!!!!!!!!

"That'll happen this year. That'll happen this year, Joey. There's no doubt in my mind that Missouri's going to receive several shots this year."

It's seriously been a long time since I laughed as hard as I laughed after listening to that five minute segment. Everything about it. Ganz taking shot at the Tigers despite being embarrassed by a combined score of 93-23 over the last two seasons. The radio hosts providing even more bulletin board material for Pinkel & Co (and in a typically arrogant Husker fan fashion). This was pure gold.

Chase would probably provide a retort to Joey's comments but I'm assuming he's already forgotten who the hell Joe Ganz is.

I also understand the segment with Ganz would have lasted longer if he hadn't had to leave early to work the early shift at the local Hy-Vee.

Cue up a cover of The Jefferson's and pass that roll of packing tape. It's been a long time coming: Mizzourah is on the move. This move won't come into effect until next Thursday, but here is a look at the new digs, complete with a new domain name: Mizzourahblog.com. Here are the details:

-First the important stuff; if you've been coming to Mizzourah via our domain name of Mizzourah.net, you won't need to change anything. We own that domain name, and will flip the .net over to the new site when we make the move, tentatively scheduled for Thursday morning.

-If you've been coming to Mizzourah via the bullyforoldmizzou.blogspot.com, save your wrist for your typical rainy Saturday afternoon "activity", and beginning when we flip, you'll have to come to the site via Mizzourah.net or Mizzourahblog.com. Don't worry, we'll let you know that we flipped over.

-We will continue to post here until we make the flip over. You will see some random crap go up on the new site throughout the next week until launch, just trying to figure out why the hell someone left us the keys to this Bentley unsupervised.

-I'd love for everyone to sign up for a Bloguin username for commenting, but lets be honest, if we couldn't get Danny from Lawrence to do it after two years, we don't have a shot. It is free, of course. If you're already a Bloguin blog commenter, you're already a step ahead. Please, just sign up. We're glad you did here on blogspot, and it's always easier to respond to a commenter with a name than just as "that asshole Anon".

-Speaking of commenting, one of the cool features of Bloguin that I haven't seen anywhere else is that we're moving all archives over, including every single comment made on Mizzourah. The fact that we were able to do this was one of the huge reasons to make this move. It really doesn't seem like a move, more just shining up this rusty pile of garbage. See, you've already contributed to a site that you didn't know existed until now.

-We are learning this new formatting the same time as you are reading it. If you notice anything going awry, let us know in the comments section or with a quick email. I know I'll eff ~~some~~ several things up. That's part of the reason we aren't officially launching until Thursday, just to get that new blog smell out of the joint. Oh, and figure it out.

There are a shitload of bells and whistles to go along with the new site, including automatically posting to Facebook and whatnot, so feel free to play around. If you'd like to see a final build on what we'll look like in the next few weeks, check out In The Bleacher's new site, another Bloguin site.

Bloguin is excited to have Mizzourah come aboard, and in all honesty, very little of it has to do with us three pricks writing the site. Instead, it has to do with all of the commenters. We are looking forward to it, and you should be as well. Commenting is a hell of a lot better than what we've dealt with, especially if you're HTML retarded like I am.

For the second consecutive week Facebook Friday is turning into Happy Birthday Friday. This week we're celebrating Matty Lawrence's big Two-Two. Looking through Matty Ice's facebook pics it really started to dawn on me how much I'm going to miss this kid next year. In his sophomore and senior years Matt put together two of the most efficient seasons I've ever seen from a Mizzou b-baller.

The rumor that will never die

As we all know the Mizzou to the Big 10 (11) rumors have been around since T-Rex's roamed the earth. I got sick of hearing the rumors around the same time that I turned 11 years old. For the record, I don't want the Tigers in the Big 10 (11) and I don't think they'll ever be in the Big 10 (11).

But that said, this video from Big 10 (11) Network analyst and Mizzou alumnus Mike Hall is fairly entertaining. And as Greg Stipanovich says in the video, Mizzou was in the Big 8 and now they're in the Big 12. Twelve plus eight equals 20, which divided by two is 10. So it only makes sense for the Tigers to join up with the Big 10 (11).

Tigers, Beakers slated for Big Monday in Larryville

ESPN's Big Monday schedule has been released and the Tigers' will be squaring off with kU in Lawrence on Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. in a game that will be featured on ESPN's Big Monday. It will be the 18th consecutive season the Tigers' have made at least one appearance on Big Monday but it will be their lone appearance next season.

A lot of Mizzou fans despise everything about the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Lincoln, Neb. Their team, their fans, their city, their hookers, etc. I can't totally disassociate myself from that group because no matter how many years pass and no matter how many times we quadruple the Huskers' score in football, the kicked ball game will always be somewhat of an open wound.

But at the same time I've been to watch Mizzou play in Lincoln twice ('06 and last year) and both times had a helluva time. What's more is I really kinda enjoyed the city (wouldn't want to live there, but it was a nice change of pace) and the majority of their fans were really cool to me. But nonetheless, occasionally I will read or hear about something that a Husker fan has said or written and the pure, unadulterated hate of all things Cornhusker that I grew up with will be resurrected.

Last Friday was one of those times. I ran across a link over on Rock M to a post on the Cornhusker blog Corn Nation. Now before I delve to far into all the reasons the post was an idiotic one to make let me give our ear pickin' enemies some credit. Corn Nation is a fantastic blog if you want an intelligent take on Cornhusker sports. Unfortunately, this wasn't necessarily a good example of that.

The post was in response to a survey that was being taken about college teams and their biggest rivals. All in all it wasn't a bad post. If it hadn't been for one 33 word blurb. One of the questions on the survey was "In 100 words or less, best describe your team's fan base." Here was part of the response in which the author tried to explain why Nebraska fans are the greatest in college football. He ended up coming closer to proving why Nebraska fans are the most illogical in college football.

"Nebraskans are generally football geeks. We tend to be more knowledgeable about the actual game of football than most other fans, which is why you don't see massive amounts of tailgating at Husker games."

Anyone care to explain the logic behind that statement? You don't tailgate and have a good time before the game actually starts because you know more about football than most fans that are tailgating? Umm.......whhhhhaaaaaaaaatttt?

If I had one complaint about my experience in Lincoln it would have been that the tailgating atmosphere left a bit to be desired. In fact, if I remember correctly from my trip to Lincoln last season (and I'm not certain because I had already had a decent number of brewskies at the time) most of the tailgaters were Mizzou fans. I wasn't sure why that was at the time. I honestly had no idea that the reason for that was because I was less knowledgeable about football than those football lovin' Husker fans.

This really isn't Mizzou related but for some reason I haven't seen too many headlines about it, which is strange considering I live in the city that it concerns. Kansas City will get the 2012 MLB All-Star Game. It should be really cool for Royals fans to get to see Zack Greinke pitching back at the K...in a Yankee uniform. (Low blow, I know. Totally uncalled for.)

Update @7:45 a.m. My buddy Andrew has informed me that Greinke is actually signed with the Royals through 2012. But with that being the final year of his contract there is a good chance that will have either been traded or at least on the block at that point.

And Fastidious Hat pointed out that this is a Mizzou related post because Ian Kinsler will be starting a 2B, Aaron Crow and Max Scherzer will be starting and Kyle Gibson and Nick Tepesch will be the first pitchers coming out of the bullpen.

As many of you enjoy your "sick day" today due to the cramping of your wrist (no, it's not from the same activity Hat usually schedules at Thursday afternoon), your Xbox 360 or PS3 may already be getting a little warm from beating the hell out of Florida International with Mizzou in NCAA '10. For the first time since this thing was Bill Walsh Football, I'm skipping out on NCAA for the year. Mainly, I played the demo and thought I was going to have a seizure. Oh, and the thing reminded me of playing NFL Gameday back in high school and college...not in a good way. I realize your loyalty, so I won't bitch, but instead I'll try to help you out rather than saying "Wait for Madden".

1). Yeah, Faurot Field IS STILL called "Ferret Field". Total bullshit. Again.
2). Gold unis are in the game. Pretty sweet, and needed.
3). Illannoy/Mizzou still isn't being played at the Dome. The B12 title game is still at Camerohead, when it's supposed to be in the Cowboys' new digs in Arlington.
4). I realize that I'm a nerd. I'm a guy in his later-20s that still throws down some Xbox, but I don't live in my mom's basement AND I've touched a real life woman (I know, hard to believe), but even I think this Teambuilder thing is for the nerds. Go ahead and spend hours creating your historical/high school teams. I'll be with your girlfriend.

For some unfathomable reason, the Raiders have decided to cut sixth-round draft pick Stryker Sulak before the rookie training camp.

The formal designation was "waived/unsigned."

So, basically, the Raiders have cut Sulak before his rookie training camp. Said the source, "I've never seen that happen before."

This really sucks and if it was any other team other than the Raiders I'd be surprised. I'm now hoping Sulak gets picked up by a team in the AFC West, I don't care which, and makes Davis' life absolutely miserable by sacking the shit out of JaMarcus Russell for years to come.

Single game tickets for Mizzou Football home games will go on sale to the general public beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15. Initially, only the Bowling Green, Furman, Baylor and Iowa State games will be available for advance purchase.

Single game tickets for the Nebraska and Texas games will not be available until Sept. 1. The only way to guarantee your seats for those two games is to purchase a season ticket. Season Tickets are currently available for as low as $199.

Tickets to the four designated home games will be available for order online beginning at 6 p.m. on July 15 only at mutigers.com. Tickets will open up to phone and in-person orders at the Mizzou Arena ticket office beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 16.

Earlier this week Big Head posted a pic of Sod Reesing celebrating the Fourth of July by wearing cutoff jorts and a plaid visor while evidently violating a poor innocent puppy. Some might even go as far to say Sod looked like a "douche" in said pic. Beaker fans argued that Sod is just a down to earth guy and that he was just doing what normal guys do on the 4th. In all honesty, I understood the point they were making but still pointed out that Mizzou has had its own share of down to earth athletes over the last few years and that they have never been caught looking like that.

Specifically, I mentioned Martin Rucker as a guy who was well known for being incredibly approachable and pound for pound one of the coolest cats you'll ever meet. And it just so happens that we have some pics from his 4th of July get together. It should be noted that none of these pics involve jorts or plaid visors in any way, shape or form.

Mizzou sees you, Phil Steele

“Fifth in the Big 12 North,” tailback Derrick Washington said the sign reads, no doubt a nod to Phil Steele’s College Football Preview, which among other things projects the Tigers finishing ahead of only Iowa State in the North Division. “Everybody looks at that everyday.”

Steele’s is the only major publication predicting such a drastic decline for the Tigers. MU is picked to finish third by the three other prominent magazines, Lindy’s, Athlon and Sporting News. Among those four, Kansas and Nebraska were each picked by two to win the division.

“We want to go out there and gain some respect,” MU linebacker Sean Weatherspoon said. “We don’t want anybody to just give it to us. I understand what’s going on with people picking us fifth. When you get six draft picks, a lot of people obviously think you’re going to take a few steps back. But it’s rebuild or reload. We choose to reload. We’re excited about this.”

Others were less diplomatic.

“Fifth in the North, that’s totally disrespectful,” wide receiver Danario Alexander chimed in. “We’re using that as our motive right now to get ready for the season.”

“If we win the Big 12 North two years in a row and then we get pushed back because we lose some great talent, it’s like a slap in the face,” added nose tackle Jaron Baston. “It’s like, ‘Well, Mizzou had their run. They’re done for now.’ That’s not us. We’re still moving forward.”

Leo Lyons Summer League Update

In his first appearance with the Indiana Pacers Summer League team Leo Lyons scored seven points in seven minutes in a 91-88 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The scoring you have to be pleased with but it's a little concerning that he didn't pull down any rebounds in his limited PT. This is on the heels of a DNP-coach's decision. Hopefully Jim O'Brien (or whoever coaches the summer league team) starts giving Leo some better burn.

Update Via Dave MacD: Leo played nine minutes today against the Utah Jazz and scored nine points. And again grabbed 0 rebounds. That makes 16 points in 16 minutes. And 0 rebounds. If you're still not sure what Leo's strengths and weaknesses are then stop reading this blog. Immediately.

Who wins: Missouri.

Why: Both teams are coming off recent runs that have been the most successful in recent history. Missouri has made back-to-back appearances in the Big 12 title game. And Kentucky has made three straight bowl appearances for the first time since 1950-52 under coach Rich Brooks.

In this mythical matchup, Missouri will send a rebuilding offense keyed by quarterback Blaine Gabbert against a salty Kentucky defense unit led by cornerback Trevard Lindley. The key, like most games for Missouri this season, will be consistent production from its running game led by Derrick Washington and De'Vion Moore.

Missouri returns only four starters on defense, but Gary Pinkel has been raving about the increased athleticism at defensive end and at cornerback. Streaky Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline hasn't shown much consistency in his career and likely would struggle against the Tigers' defense, particularly linebacker Sean Weatherspoon.

In the end, I think Missouri grinds out a victory because of the running game and with Gabbert making just enough plays to let them win

When I was six years old my family took a vacation to Disney World and we saw this in 3-D at Epcot Center. And that is my first memory of Michael Jackson. An appropriate introduction if there ever was one.

Earlier this spring we followed the recruiting drama of the Henry brothers, Xavier and C.J. Xavier is one of the nations top rated recruits and had originally signed a letter of intent to join his brother C.J. and play for John Calipari at Memphis. After Calipari bolted for Kentucky the bros decided to play for Billy Self, a move that sent shockwaves around the college basketball world and immediately made kansas one of the favorites to win next year's national title.

But on Sunday the Kansas City Star ran a story about the brothers and their father, Carl Henry. In the article Carl makes it abundantly clear that his boys have no desire to stick around Lawrence any longer than they absolutely have to. (Can't say I blame them.) In fact, the Henry family looked into having Xavier play overseas for a season even after he had signed with kU. Xavier has also chosen not to take classes over the summer unlike most other freshmen.

Yet, while freshmen Thomas Robinson and Elijah Johnson are already on campus attending classes like most others around the country, the Henrys remain here. Carl says he encouraged Xavier to attend summer school.

“He doesn’t wanna go,” Carl says. “I said, ‘Well, you call Coach Self and tell him you don’t want to come.’”

Xavier says it’s nothing personal. He had to get his braces off and recently had root canals done on his front two teeth. Carl says it’s more that Xavier is not interested in attending class.

“If he didn’t have to go to college, he wouldn’t do it,” Carl says.

The story has apparently ruffled some feathers in the Henry camp. Carl Henry has announced that there will be a family meeting tonight to discuss the boys commitment to kU. Self and assistant coach Danny Manning are also traveling to Oklahoma City to meet with the family. Carl told 610 Sports radio that none of the facts of the story was wrong but he felt he was portrayed in a negative light. Hmm.

“Now all of this stuff has been said, his mom doesn’t care where he goes,” Carl Henry said. “So guess what? Kid might have a change of mind. That’s what I told Coach Self.”

Regardless of what the Henry family decides they have revealed themselves to be immensely arrogant people. These guys could obviously give a rat's ass about their teammates. I have to ask kU fans if this is worth it? Even if they lead you to a national championship it has to be hard to cheer for a team that has soooo many head cases. The Morris twins. Sherron Collins. These asshats.

Obviously I'm a Mizzou fan so it's much easier for me to hate these guys. But there are kansas players that I'm able to respect even while I'm hating them. Nick Collison and Kirk Hinrich were warriors. I loved watching them battle even when they were breaking my heart. Mario Chalmers might have been a little cocky and apparently was no stranger to certain "substances" but he was a bonafide gamer who laughed in the face of pressure.

But these guys are just dicks who carry themselves with a sense of entitlement that is completely unearned. While the Henry brothers are scouting out which agent to contact first and Sherron Collins is doing his best Hamburgerlar imitation I know that Kimmie English is taking Michael Dixon under his wing and teaching him how to break into Mizzou Arena after midnight. I know J.T. Tiller is probably locked in the weight room and Zaire Taylor is probably reliving every excruciating second of the UConn game.

I know it's a thrill entering the season with national accolades and a damn good chance of winning everything. As optimistic as I am for next season I would be overjoyed if the Tigers could only replicate last season's success. But if I was given the chance to trade rosters with kU I can say with 100 percent certainty that I would not do it. These guys may not get us a national title but I can rest easy at night knowing they're going to do everything they possibly can to do just that. And they're not going to do it because it will lead to millions of $$$. They're going to do it because they're Missouri Tigers and they're damn proud of it.

Editor's Note: I forgot to add that Carl said C.J. is better than any other player on kU's roster. Despite not playing an organized basketball game in four years. Yikes. I'm sure that's not going to piss of any upperclassmen.

How Did Berkstresser Commit to Mizzou?

After having to wonder about Sheldon Richardson's maybe-I-will commitment earlier this year, it's pretty damn sweet to have a kid like Corbin Berkstresser commit to Mizzou for '11 already. Here's the lowdown on how it happened via the KC Star.

The Wednesday tutoring session began like so many others. Lee’s Summit High School quarterback Corbin Berkstresser threw pass after pass.

Then he popped the question.

“If I know I don’t want to play anywhere else,” Berkstresser said, “should I just go ahead and commit to Missouri?”

Berkstresser’s QB coach, Skip Stitzell — who works on camps with many high schools and colleges, including Missouri — countered with a question of his own.

“You’re telling me that if Florida, USC, Notre Dame, Texas — any of those programs — came after you, you have no interest in them?” Stitzell said.

Berkstresser did not hesitate.

“I just want to play for Missouri,” he said.

Well, then, Stitzell said, if Berkstresser’s mind was made up, his heart set …

The next day, June 18, Berkstresser accepted Missouri’s offer of a football scholarship — for the 2011 college season.

Lance Stephenson might be interested in Mizzou

Our boys over at Rock M posted a link yesterday about Lincoln High School phenom Lance Stephenson being at least somewhat interested in Mizzou. This isn't huge news considering other schools like kU, Maryland, Pitt and possibly Memphis and Arizona are also in the running for him. The odds seem to be against the Tigers landing this wunderkind.

But it's noteworthy that Mike Anderson and his staff are at least generating some buzz and making other schools work to keep players away from MU. Stephenson is known as a player cut from the same mold as Michael Beasley and OJ Mayo; me-first players with no intention of staying in college more than one year.

The debate over at Rock M is whether or not it's worth adding a guy like this to the roster. The argument might be insignificant for the time being since Stephenson in all likelihood will not be coming to Mizzou, but eventually you have to believe that HCMA is going to land a player of this caliber and a player like this is certainly capable of messing with the chemistry that was the biggest strength of the team last year.

Obviously, Mike Anderson and the rest of the coaching staff are more qualified to make this kind of decision. They have to decide whether or not the kid is capable of putting his own self interests aside for a season like Rick Barnes was able to convince Kevin Durant to do. (Durant might not be the best example because even though he was a gunner he was a very unselfish player and in my opinion stands alone from the other one year players we've seen since the age limit was implemented.) If so then you obviously take the kid even if he does only stay one year.

As for Stephenson, I think he would be a perfect fit on next year's team. For one thing he would give the Tigers a player that could probably consistently create his own shot. That's something the Tigers were in need of last year and will need even more this season. And even if Stephenson came in with a terrible attitude I don't think it would be possible for him to infect the locker room. There are too many guys on the roster that have already completely bought in to what Mike Anderson has been preaching. Stephenson wouldn't just be battling Anderson, he'd be battling the entire team. And in that case CMA could bench the kid with very few repercussions and that would hurt the kid's draft stock. He would feel an intense amount of pressure from the coaches, players and fans to conform.

This is the kind of guy that Quin Snyder would have probably been able to land but then he'd never be able to convince him to buy into the team concept. Since Mike Anderson already has that foundation in place I say go for it if you've got the chance. Kid's a special talent. Plus he's from the same high school that produced Stephon Marbury and Sebastian Telfair. That's instant street cred.

Update @3:11: Nevermind. Stephenson committed to Cincy as was pretty much expected.

kgb, A Friend Of Mizzou

Sherron Collins Should Lay Off The Fatty Foods

The Kansas City Star reports that Sherron Collins is putting on the pounds at an "alarming pace."

Last summer, Kansas point guard Sherron Collins checked in at 220 pounds in August before the Jayhawks’ exhibition tour of Canada and was publicly chastised by KU coach Bill Self for being out of shape.

This summer, Collins is putting on weight at a more alarming pace — Self said he is around 229 now — but Self is reserving judgment with months to go before KU’s annual boot camp workouts.

“He’s heavy right now, 20, 30 pounds overweight,” Self said. “He’s got some time to get some of it down. It’s going to be a very tough patch for him to get where he needs to be.”

Sherron, buddy, I understand what it's like, if I'm in Columbia and I go down to Big 12 on dollar burger night I'm at risk of spending ten dollars. I however am a fat blogger, so it works for me. Those two words are practically synonyms. You, however, are a point guard for a team that has 4 to 1 odds to win the National Championship. I was setting up my new apartment during the NBA Draft and was thus unable to provide my thoughts and analysis. Fortunately, Fastidious Hat was here to provide minute-by-minute updates as DeMarre Carroll and Leo Lyons waited to hear where they would be spending the next several months. (He also added in some truly wonderful Steve Nash photos but didn't include one of my personal favorite NBA draft pics that you can find below.)

But since this was the first draft in 93 years that the Tigers had a chance of getting two players taken and featured some typically embarrassing picks by NBA teams as well as an absolutely terrible talent pool, I had to chime in with my delayed reflections.

First we'll start with where JYD landed. Memphis. Ugh. I mean seriously, UGH. I thought DeMarre's best chance of making an impact in the Association would be to land on a winning team (like Cleveland or Chicago) and become an energy and character guy off the bench. I convinced myself he could replace Anderson Varejao.

But instead it's Memphis. Some might argue that he'll have a better chance of getting immediate playing time with a team like Memphis. He also has a better chance of getting misused since that franchise is a joke. That happens and he could find himself on the bench because of no fault of his own. And if you can't crack the playing rotation in Memphis then most other teams are going to shy away from you. As a rule of thumb, if you're a role player it is almost always better to start your career with a winning franchise. There's a reason they win and one of those reasons is usually that they are good at developing talent.

And I don't see this team turning things around anytime soon. They've got a couple decent pieces in point guard Mike Conley and small forward Rudy Gay who is a damn good scorer. (And he plays pickup ball with Kimmie English in the summer.) I'm also a big fan of Marc Gasol who seems destined to be a Vlade Divac type player who plays a major role on a good team and has all kinds of intangibles but that you can never fucking stand mainly because he's European and bitches at every call. He's also one of the dirtier players I've seen in a while. Check out the gold medal game between the US and Spain for more on that.

But the team also has OJ Mayo who is a little too much like Rudy Gay (shoot first player, passing isn't good at all). And then there's Marko Jaric who is just awful and I don't think I need to say anything more about him. Looking at their potential starting five—Conley, Mayo, Gay, Gasol and Hasheem Thabeet—I notice a major problem: That starting five is not going to average much over 10 assists a game combined. Conley averaged around five dimes per game, Mayo averaged three, Gay and Gasol under two and Thabeet isn't a good passer. That's terrible. They're a team with an offense built around one-on-one scorers. If you're building your offense around those kinds of players they better be in the Kobe or Kevin Durant mold, which they're not.

So to summarize, I'm not real happy with DeMarre's situation. But at least he went in the first round and he went in the same spot (No. 27) as Linas Kleiza did. That worked out alright. And maybe he can fall into the Darius Miles-Quentin Richardson clique and start doing that fist head thumping thing every time he scores. On second thought, maybe that's a terrible idea.

Now Leo. Not as much to say about him since he wasn't taken. I've noticed that if you're projected as a second rounder then it's pretty much a crapshoot whether or not you're going to actually be picked. Tough break for Leo. But he is getting a shot with the Indiana Pacers summer team and will supposably get a shot with Cleveland after that.

After watching Leo for four years we all know that he need to go somewhere where there's a player or coach who will light a fire under his ass. That's not meant as a knock on Leo. It's just his makeup as a player and a person.

Ideally, he'd end up in Boston or San Antonio where he'd have either Kevin Garnett (who has a record of bringing out the best in other bigs) or Tim Duncan on his ass at all times. I'm not sure Boston has expressed interest but I believe the Spurs have. That would be perfect as they're my early pick to win the Western Conference next season after acquiring Richard Jefferson for the patch of hair that used to cover Manu Ginobili bald spot. Best of luck to both Leo and DeMarre.

And I won't go into detail here since this is a Mizzou blog and it is not at all connected to the Tigers, but I want to go on record saying that the Thunder and Kings (and Grizzlies) all made a catastrophic mistake by passing up Ricky Rubio. Just sayin.

According to the Kansas City Star, Leo Lyons will be playing for the Indiana Pacers' summer league team and could go play for the Cavaliers after that. He's clearly playing for a contract so hopefully he's Good Leo all the way and shows up the clearly way overrated Psycho-T.

Sad times indeed but you gotta look at the upside here, if Thomas Gardner can land on an NBA roster then I guarantee you Leo will land on a roster in no time. DeMarre Carroll gets drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 27th pick of the first round. My pessimism was getting the best of me as I even tweeted "DeMarre Carroll going in the first round looking less and less likely." mere seconds before he was drafted over the Pittsburgh forward tandem of DeJuan Blair (who made No. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet and new teammate to Carroll his bitch) and Sam Young. Unbelievable.

NBA Draft Night '09

That's right, children, it's time for the NBA Draft! Hooray! It's like the NFL Draft only a lot shorter and everybody gets traded. Tonight is the night that DeMarre Carroll and Leo Lyons attempt to be the first Missouri Tigers tandem to be drafted in the same year since Byron Irvin and Gary Leonard were drafted in 1989.

I've read a lot of mock drafts that have DeMarre going in the first round so I'm remaining positive about his odds of going to a playoff team at the end of the first.

Lucas to Mizzou, Terry Decommitting from Nubs?

Take it for what it's worth, but I saw discussion on this topic from a blog that was talked about on TigerBoard. The author doesn't seem to have a shown bias (maybe kU?), but we've known wideout Marcus Lucas has liked Mizzou, but this Keeston Terry deal is just weird. Mizzou wanted him for a bit, but backed off Terry in favor of Lucas. Plus, Lucas could come to Mizzou with some big ass Kansas City Chief trophy!

As a bit of a teaser we will give you an update on 2 of the 3 top prospects in the area. Keeston Terry officially committed to Nebraska about a month ago. Of course those close to him acknowledge that he nearly committed the first time he set foot on campus for a junior day in February. However word is now that there may be a rift between some of the coaches and Terry. Apparently this stemmed from some contact Terry has had with KU coaches lately. Its too early to know whether this is actually a concern for the Huskers or if this is one of the many ups and downs before signing day. Also, fellow Nebraska commit Tyler Gabbert has already called Terry to "firm up" his commitment. But given Gabbert's older brothers famous switch that is nothing in stone. Chief and I are not expecting Terry to ever wear red (except in those ugly KU special uni's). Remember both Terry's parents went to KU and apparently only a few hours away from graduating from the school. It just seems like too many things are setting up for him to switch his commitment.

Marcus Lucas has drawn offers from some top programs however one seems to have him nearly locked up. Lucas's mom played college hoops at MU and he will end up in black and gold. Many from other sites claim Lucas is an OU lean for now with MU and even Iowa State as dark horses. However Lucas didn't have a great meeting with the OU coaches the last time they met. And Lucas has kinda been playing with various recruiting reporters. His comments on Iowa State were slightly exaggerated (I am sure thats hard to believe) when he said that was an offer he was waiting for. The only hope the other schools have for Lucas is if MU has one of their traditional meltdowns. You remember those, the things that happened to MU before 2007. There is a possibility that may happen with all of the personnel changes this year but lets be honest, worst case they will have 6 or 7 wins and thats nothing to call a melt down. Honestly there isn't any "dirty rumor" that we can report about Lucas going to MU but just mark it down, he is going there.

As we mentioned the other day, a quick commitment was coming from Fort Osage corner EJ Gaines. JP from SMS was right on again. So why did he commit so quickly? JP's got it.

" Yes, I committed to Mizzou." said Gaines. "I talked it over with my Dad and we agreed that Mizzou was the best place for me. So I decided to end things and not wait."

What were some of the reasons behind the agreement that Mizzou was the best place?

"I just love the coaches. How they treat you. They are cool and seem like they are there for you and stand by you. I think they will be there for me and give me the best chance to help me succeed. It`s close to home and I also like the school a lot."

With it being so early I asked if there was a chance he could change his mind.

" No, I am done with recruiting. I am just focusing on the season and doing what I need to do to get to Mizzou. I will take my official visit in December."

Gaines was a Class 5 first team All-State performer with over 80 tackles and 5 INTS in 2008. He also had and offer from Akron and was being recruited by Tulsa and BYU. He becomes the Tigers 8th known commitment.

Word to the wise- run with your head up or Gaines will decleat your ass.

Third-rounder Chase Coffman had his first team work as a pro over the weekend and looks to be as advertised. A big, rangy tight end that can catch. If the Bengals are looking to solve the third-down problem left by T.J. Houshmandzadeh's vacancy, the tandem of Coffman and slot receiver Andre Caldwell could be the antidote.
But not on Sept. 13.
After all, Coffman is still getting acclimated after missing most of the spring workouts with a broken foot on the last snap of his Missouri career. And he has to adjust to putting his hand on the ground, something he hasn’t done in spread offenses in high school and college. If he's going to be a threat, he has to pick up some blocking.
But after watching him this weekend, the club is convinced Coffman be a big-time factor sooner or later. Some club insiders believe he has the ability to catch a Danny Ross-like 70 balls in the coming seasons.

K-State, Meet the IRS

Well, well, well. I'm not here to give the 'I told you so' to our K-State commenter(s) that made themselves look foolish as hell yesterday, so I'll let the audit summarization do that for me.

The audit found, among other things:

--A lack of supporting documents for 13 payments totaling $845,000 made to Snyder, Weiser, Krause and others.

--A $500,000 loan to Weiser just before he resigned that he was not required to "justify or explain."

--An athletic department bank account operated without review or monitoring by the university's controller that was used to make more than $1 million in payments a year, including some payments to "personal corporations" of Weiser, Snyder and Krause.

--And, beyond athletics, that KSU's National Institute for Strategic Technology Acquisition and Commercialization allowed its directors and officers to own stock in and serve on the boards of companies launched by the incubator.

Earlier, Kansans learned of a secret deal to give former football coach Ron Prince $3.2 million in deferred compensation.

The fact that, according to the audit, nearly all the money involved came from private sources does not excuse KSU, which is a public university dependent on tax dollars and accountable to taxpayers.

So, who's the dumbshit? As I mentioned, a public school taking public money is losing track of cash, a fact that was already known without me having to put the audit on your screen. More interesting is the fact that a K-State donor and Kansas taxpayer is ok with a public university losing the funds that they paid in.

Feel free to insert another incest joke here, which is especially funny coming from Manhattan, Kansas, where the only thing you have to look forward to there is getting the hell out.

Thanks Bobby. I'm not much of an overseas political pundit, but I agree that what's going on in Iran is a bad situation. I've received more than one email from Iran-Americans and American journalists in Iran sitting around while this shit hits the fan outside over the past few weeks, even before the voting and protesting began, so I've kind of wondered how they were doing --seriously, email us.

And Bobby's request is my pleasure. We've found a green J-Biel for the situation as well, but instead of just posting pictures of my future ex-wife (hopefully she can get 'Biel' back when I dump her), I'll throw up only hotties in green. Most of Mizzou nation got excited last week with the commitment of in-stater Corbin Berkstresser. The kid is a bit smaller than Godzilla at 6'4" and 220, and JP from SMS sat down to get the skinny on the commitment.

" It was kind of surreal." said Berkstresser regarding his offer and recent commit. "I have wanted to be a Missouri Tiger ever since I was a little kid. It is something that I have dreamt about being able to do, play for the Tigers. So once the opportunity arrived, I knew that there was no point in waiting. I knew that no matter what other school came along or was out there, that they could not change my mind or top Mizzou. I`m 100% a Tiger."

It did not hurt that both of Corbin`s parents are Mizzou alum. Even so, other schools were aware of his talents and he had made trips to a couple other schools recently.

Carroll is Joe Dumars' type of player. He works his tail off, plays defense and can play multiple positions. If Carroll slips this far, he'll be the steal of the draft.

Gotta love that kind of adulation. But personally, I'd much rather see JYD end up in either Cleveland or Chi-town (two other teams that DeMarre has gone to in various mock drafts). As much as the Detroit fans would love DeMarre's grittyness (wouldn't he have been a great fit on the Bad Boy teams or the Pistons' championship team from '04?), that franchise is a mess right now and Joe Dumars is the man responsible. But at the same time, Detroit might be a place DeMarre could go and earn immediate burn and possibly still sneak into the playoffs.

Kim English's Twitter account is now a thing of the past. As of this evening, the account has apparently been disabled. I'm not sure if this was something that the athletic department or Coach Anderson ordered (I would imagine they had something to do with it) and I can't say I blame them. In this day and age allowing your athletes to have Twitter accounts is kinda like setting a bomb and hoping it doesn't explode.

But at the same time isn't this a great way for programs to get their athletes to connect with its fans and send a positive message? Because that's exactly what Kimmie was doing. If Coach Anderson (or someone within the athletic department) is willing to explain the potential risks associated with such social networking tools (which I would hope they have done extensively already) then I don't see the harm in letting Kimmie tweet about his all-night workouts at Mizzou Arena.

*Note: Michael Dixon's account also appears to have passed away although Zaire Taylor's is still alive and kicking. Could be only a matter of time before we see it taken down as well.

It's been around that Braylon Webb committed to Mizzou a few days ago. The free safety doesn't have a lot of info out on him right now, but it's another commitment for the '10 class. After a little bit of research on him, Smoaky.com has the details.

Gilmer free safety Braylon Webb has given his verbal commitment to play for Gary Pinkel and the Missouri Tigers.

Webb, 6-1, 190, 4.5, recorded 68-tackles, 4-Interceptions, 2-FR, 1-QB pressure, 5-passes broken up, 2-sacks, and was named to the Class 3-A all-state team and was a member of All-Smoaky.com.

Buckeyes head coach Jeff Traylor told KTBB's David Smoak, "Braylon committed right after our 7-on-7 game on Thursday night, and let me tell you this is one of the best kids you'll ever know."
Webb is the 22nd East Texan to give a verbal commitment to the Class of 2010, and could join Gilmer graduate Daniel Jenkins who is currently a redshirt freshman on the Missouri roster.

Even a YouTube search, which usually a highlight film can be found with some sort of really bad hard rock beat on it, only yielded a bad, last row of the bleachers film.

I've always respected Nevada's football team. The Wolfpack has always presented some troubles, and have a shot at throwing a wrench at Mizzou in Reno this year. Chris Ault, their head coach, has always been a respectable guy from what I can tell, and the guy just seems to win. I'm not going to go all prediction on you three months out, but I can guarantee you it will be closer than last year's curbstomp in CoMo. I found Nevada's '09 promo over at RMN. It is better than a lot of B12 commercials (Power Towels anyone?)

Bill Snyder is Shadier Than an Oak Tree

It looks more and more likely that Billy Boy took some funds from the K-State athletic department. Anyone else see the irony that Snyder's book is titled "They Said It Couldn't Be Done"? Via Monday's KC Star.

The Kansas Board of Regents chopped down Jon Wefald, Bob Krause and Bill Snyder in the public arena, choosing to disclose a financial audit the regents surely understood paints Wefald, Krause and Snyder as shady, clueless and drunk on power.

I read the 34-page report. I read the newspaper accounts summarizing the audit. I’m still unclear of who did what, when and where.

My impression is that Wefald, Krause, Snyder and anyone connected to Kansas State athletics during the school’s “football powerhouse era” cashed in on the record and off.

Even Tim Weiser, who had little to do with the golden era, received a no-questions-asked $500,000 loan. Thirteen payments to Krause, Snyder, Weiser and others totaling close to $1 million cannot be accounted for or explained.

The $3 million secret buyout Krause agreed to give Ron Prince seems to be part of a pattern of financial mismanagement at K-State under Wefald’s presidency.

It's hard to believe that it took a Board of Regents to figure out that Snyder and Co. were shady as hell. This is the same guy that took on guys with horrid grades and multiple arrests (no, we're talking Snyder, not Tom Osborne. Stay on track.). This is the same athletic department that had a secret deal in place with a coach that lamely attempted to clean up the smouldering pile that was K-State football that his predecessor left him, and failed. That predecessor? Bill Snyder.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the new K-State prez could come out looking like a winner for cleaning up this mess and he may want Snyder out before it begins. He's got about one million ~~dollars~~ reasons why.

K-State is destined to be a truck load of terrible. If their football program was in bad enough shape with Ron Prince, add in another coach that is skimming money from the funds, and this thing could get ugly, department-wide. If K-State thought having their football messiah coming back to the sidelines was huge, wait until they see the hole in the ground that Snyder is starting to dig as he skullfucks the program without even coaching a game yet. Yet we wonder why men's basketball coach Frank Martin throws his name in for more jobs than Jeff Van Gundy. He might be the only smart one to disassociate his name with the entire thing.

Our boy Dave Matter has taken a little vaca to Sin City hopefully to reenact the plot from the Hangover. (I need to see it a second time to confirm this, but with all due respect to Dumb and Dumber and Old School I'm ready to call it the funniest movie I've ever seen.)

Fortunately, he's still updating his Twitter page in between marrying strippers and stealing Mike Tyson's tiger and he's provided us an early look at the national championship odds for college football and basketball. MGM Grand's has the Tigers' odds of taking home the Big One in football at 75 to 1 while Nebraska is at 40 to 1 and kU 60 to 1. The b-ballers have been given a very respectable 15 to 1 odds. Only four schools have lower odds according to Matter.

Have a safe trip back, Dave. And try to not steal any police cars along the way.

Uncle Billy Getting a K-State Kickback?

What the hell is up with the neighbors to the West? kU's had their share of problems this year, but then K-State decided they needed their athletic department to "lose" a shitload of money and one-up their Larryville rivals. According to the KC Star, KSU can't find any documentation of payments that were given to Bill Snyder and some other weasels.

A 34-page audit released by the Kansas Board of Regents on Friday outlines years of questionable payments, potential conflicts of interest, poor accounting and possible tax problems for Kansas State University, several of its former employees and the athletic department.

The report — prepared by the Grant Thornton LLP accounting firm — details previously unknown payments of tens of thousands of dollars to separate companies owned by head football coach Bill Snyder, former athletic director Tim Weiser, and Bob Krause, former athletic director and former vice president for institutional advancement.

Auditors said they could not find documentation for 13 different payments, totaling $845,000, to Snyder, Weiser, Krause and others. It criticized a $500,000 athletic department loan to Weiser, who is now deputy commissioner of the Big 12 Conference. And it said that Kansas State's scholarship fund inside the university's foundation was overdrawn by $2.4 million in 2007.

That is a lot of Power Towels people! This is the same athletic department has been just a weeee bit sketchy with their funds in the past years, and Krause was the AD with the sketchy agreement with Prince! There's no way that he'd have something with Snyder, right? Right?

Shocking Jimmy McKinney Update

For the last three years former Missouri Tiger Jimmy McKinney has been playing professional basketball in Frankfort. Now he is being given a shot to play for a major professional sport franchise in the United States. That's not all that surprising. Coming out of high school the original J-Mac was one of the most highly touted recruits the Tigers had signed in years. Although his career at MU will most likely always be remembered as somewhat of a disappointment—because of circumstances mostly out of Jimmy's control—it's not that hard to imagine Jimmy catching on in the NBDL and eventually getting a chance in the Association.

The surprising thing is who it is that's giving Jimmy a shot and the team he's getting it with...Tony LaRussa. And the St. Louis Cardinals. Bryan Burwell explains this incredible story here.

FreeDarko is an amazing blog that I never want to read for some odd reason. It's like There Will Be Blood for me, I know it's pretty much a masterpiece but I never want to freaking watch it. That said, I own and love their book and I respect the hell out of their views on all things basketball. They just posted quite possibly the latest possible mock draft seeing as how the draft is a week away.

FD has DeMarre going to Chicago with the 26th overall pick.

26. Chicago Bulls (from Denver through Oklahoma City) - DeMarre Carroll, Missouri
I would pay good money to see a frontcourt of Noah, Tyrus Thomas, and Carroll playing at the same time--just unbridled, occasionally imprudent hustle. He's the Renaldo Balkman of this year's draft, and I mean that as a compliment. It's extremely unlikely any team is going to get a star this late in the first round, especially in this draft, so why not take a player who's going to play defense, rebound, and sometimes awkwardly drive to the basket? There are reports that Carroll will need a liver transplant, but that it shouldn't affect his game. And you know what that means? A whole new liver to destroy with alcohol! As much as I hate Joakim "The Joke" Noah, I would love to see that frontcourt. Seriously though, it's a seething rage and yes I know that nickname is horribly unoriginal, but it's three in the morning. That's my defense, three in the morning.

GP nabs himself a fine QB commit as the first commit for the 2011 class. He may have a nerdy name in Corbin Berkstresser, but dude's got a gun as can be seen in the video. The 6'3" Lee's Summit QB is rated as Rivals first 6-Star player. Ok, that's a lie. Rivals, Scout, and the WWL are yet to under rate Corbin, but you can be sure it's coming.

Quick note to Corbin or his coach: Don't use Drowning Pool for another highlight vid. Please, I beg you. If they didn't suck enough, this song is on every high school highlight roll.

Mizzou 2010 Offers

As I sit here watching some old hockey games on NHL Network, I'm starting to wonder when Chris Hansen will show up at the door and tell me to have a seat after talking about all these high school kids. I've had a couple emails hit the inbox and there have been questions all over the nuclear meltdown known as TigerBoard wanting to know which kids have been offered free school and easy girls to head to CoMo. After doing somethings I'm not proud of, I've acquired a list.

Here's a little bit of a key for the uninformed: RR = Rivals Ranking (Stars), SR = Scout Ranking (umm, Stars), ER = ESPN ranking (absolute bullshit if you're not going to an SEC school). These are in some sort of order of committed, looking good, looks ok, not good, and all the way down to committed to some other school because Mizzou didn't really want them and they can go fuck themselves, unless they decide that they want to come to CoMo, which then, Welcome Aboard. It is a total copy and paste job, so consider this post mailed in.

Another Ready For Stripes?

I know that he won't want to hear it, but our recruiting go-to-guy, JP from Show Me Sports is kicking the hell out of the competition.

He is reporting that Fort Osage D-back, EJ Gaines, could be a Tiger very soon. He nabbed an offer from Pinkel while at Mizzou's KC camp. So JP, about that quick commitment?

"It`s possible. I have talked it over with my father and they have everything I would want in a school. They are close to home,are a good team and have been winning for several years now and also have good academics. I could make my decision soon since I feel so strongly about Mizzou."

Gaines has recorded 177 tackles and 10 INTS over the last two seasons. His top testing numbers are 4.47 in the forty, 34" vertical, 265lbs bench,370lbs squat and 270lbs clean.

He is also got a couple of offers from Tulsa and BYU. For those of you that are worried about Mizzou recruiting against the likes of Mountain West and C-USA teams, we've never had any C-USA commmits produce at Mizzou. FIRE PINKEL!

Nerd Decision Time

This time of year signals the beginning of football season for me. The preview mags are out, and NCAA Football is hitting the shelves in a few weeks. NCAA always gets me as excited as I was to lose my virginity, and lately, Madden has left me in a crying heap as I was after I lost my virginity. This year though, it seems EA has gotten their shit together on Madden. Both look pretty sweet though.

For the first time in a looooooong time, I'm going with Madden out of the gate. Oh, did you peep the J-Mac appearance in Madden? Looks like Madden has him as the Iggles #2 receiver.

Ready For Coulter Part II?

This time last year had Mizzou fans up in storm, collecting information and making their own assumptions on JUCO transfer ~~Baby Jesus~~ ~~Coultergeist~~ Brian Coulter walking on at Mizzou. Along with Jacquies Smith and his bitchin' haircut, Coulter and Smith formed a great DE duo late in the year after both finally learned the D.

Another walk on could be coming. One that will be in the Hall of Fame before he even gets to CoMo. One that has better bloodlines than the Queen of England. His hobbies include getting Glamour shots before decleating your sorry ass. He's had an ESPN story done on him. This one is two degrees from Kevin Bacon. Ok, I only made one of those up. Derrion Thomas, Derrick's kid, is looking at walking on to Pinkel's squad. He's a freshman from Blue Springs South, and at 6'3" and waiting to fill out around 235lb, he could earn a scholly fairly quickly as a LB.

He's looking at walking on at Bama, but it's looking like Mizzou it is.
