Saturday and Sunday sucked. It was the worst weekend I've had in a loooong time. The Oklahoma State loss was nothing short of devastating. It was the toughest loss I've ever seen in person and one of the most disappointing sporting events I've ever witnessed anywhere.
But as Mizzou fans I think we have a responsibility to not bog down the team with negative residue left over from 10/11. The Tigers have a date with the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns on Saturday and this is shaping up to be the biggest game Gary Pinkel has ever coached.
I cannot overstate how important this game is going to be. I don't say that to insinuate that if we lose Saturday the season's over. Jason Whitlock wrote a column today comparing the Tigers to the '03 K-State Wildcats who lost three regular season games but went on to win the Big 12 Championship and was in great shape heading into the Fiesta Bowl before Ell Roberson ran into legal problems.
But at this point the season can go one of two ways for the Tigers: They can rebound and still have arguably the greatest season in school history and possibly compete for a National Championship. Or they can fall apart starting with a loss to Texas and we could be left with bitter memories of the greatest class in Missouri Tiger history.
So forget about 10/11. It's over and it's not going to change. But a lot of us have waited for most of our lives for a season like this one. And I'm not going to give up on it before I need to.
If you can afford it, make the 12 hour trek to Austin. And to steal a phrase from HCGP: Come early, stay late, cheer loud and wear gold.

Welcome to big time college football. A lot of the comments from Husker fans on here are construed as people that hate Missouri. They don't hate Missouri at all. What they (or we) do hate is fans that feel they are the “enlightened ones” because they had one good year the season before. They don’t understand the “perfect storm” it takes to be in the national championship game. The pain you go through after a single loss that has most likely destroyed your chance at the championship. Go through gut wrenching losses like the OSU one for 5 or 7 more years and you might be ready for a National Championship. Just remember, that feeling like somebody just kicked you in the stomach after a loss means you are a fan of a big time college football program!
Who do you think you are Bump? Some Husker jer...wait, you make valid points.
There are panzy Mizzou fans, along with bad fans for every program. Just look on Tigerboard for the cesspool of crazies.
The OSU loss hurts because we just plain got beat. There's no excuse, and it was at home. The fact that we can't pinpoint why we loss really hurts. We had multiple chances to win, but didn't capitalize.
I'm off the ledge. On to Austin kids.
What hurt the most about this loss was that it's a kind of loss that Mizzou fans haven't had to go through for decades and decades. With the exception of last year's Big 12 Championship Game, we haven't had to see realistic NC dreams possibly crushed. And even last year we were on a magic carpet ride to begin with.
But I've described winning a NC in college football as a "perfect storm" many many times. Bryan Burwell wrote on Sunday in the Post-Dispatch that he feels this Texas game will be the truest of all tests of this program's staying power.

It does suck. When the clock hit zero, it probably felt like a big kick in the bag. Remember though that there is a helluva lot of football to be played. You got beat in the first half of the season, are still on track to win the Big 12 north, and if you run the table -- including the Big 12 CCG, you will be at the big table come BCS time...
Thanks Engineer. That's a pretty accurate description of what it felt like on Saturday. But like I said, we have no reason to throw in the towel after one loss to a very good opponent. Bring on the 'Horns.
