Responses to Kroenke/Laurie bashing

Allow me to rant for a moment.

Yesterday I made a post speculating as to whether or not Tony Temple would have been granted his appeal had he not withdrawn it. I compared his situation to that of former Tiger and current MO State b-baller Spencer Laurie who was in a very similar situation and was given an extra year of eligibility.

The entire post was purely speculative and hypothetical. I admit it was somewhat of a non-issue but I felt it was interesting to think about and based on the 11 comments it's gotten so far so have several people who choose to read this blog.

I also did a little bashing of Laurie and his cousin Josh Kroenke in the post. Well, leave it to Tigerboarders to read the post and immediately start making personal attacks on the postee. You'll notice a Tigerboarder at the bottom of the page who refers to me as "trash" because I "don't know what I'm talking about" and "bash my own players."

I could use this space to discuss all the mindless stories coming out of Big 12 Media Day (Josh Freeman a #1 pick? Really?) but that's no fun. I would much rather provoke the Tigerboard crazies. So let me refute those claims.

If you are going to say I don't know what I'm talking about then please explain why you think that. All I did was make a comparison and bring up a hypothetical situation. That's what blogs do.

And I suppose I shouldn't bash our own players. I should ignore any flaws that may appear in their games no matter how obvious and argue that every one of them are wonderful players. On second thought, Josh Kroenke was a great player. The value of those 2.9 points per game he brought to the table during his senior year were immeasurable to our missing the NCAA Tournament.

And to everyone who says Kroenke and Laurie weren't great but solid players, you're wrong. I'm sorry, but they were awful. Laurie couldn't hack it running the point as a sophomore in a season where we were so desperate for point guard help that we decided to try the Randy Pully Experiment.

As for Kroenke, I'll say this, he was horrible defensively (slower than Matt Lawrence if possible) and didn't bring much to the table offensively but he didn't make a lot of mistakes. But his forte was he was a pure shooter and a tough player. Well he shot 38% from the field (although 38% from behind the arc as well) and averaged 1.2 rebounds. I do think he led the team in flagrant fouls though.

And here's the problem I've had with Kroenke, he got way more minutes than he ever should have and I think the reason probably had something to do with Papa Kroenke. The guy started over Linas Kleiza for crying out loud.

Feel free to disagree with me on this. I mean, I'm sure the family that used their money and influence to have a state of the art college basketball arena named after their daughter who had no connection to the university wouldn't use that same political clout to land their relatives basketball scholarships, right?

I even got attacked on TB. Nice. HAHA

I agree with everything you're saying. I'm not implying that Kroenke/Laurie got their scholly's illegally or anything, but the fact that they sucked isn't even up for debate.

Ugh, I can't stand people who refuse to be critical of players or coaches just because they're on your favorite team or college you went to. I hate it when they get on your case for being critical.

If you honestly want to blindly believe that your team is the best team ever and every single one of those players deserve to play in the pros, then by all means, keep on living the dream. The rest of us, however, will be smart and actually think about the team. I will never stop being a Mizzou fan regardless of how terrible any of their sports are, but that doesn't mean I won't be mad at them for sucking. There's a reason why we're constantly missing out on March Madness.

The criticisms of Laurie and Kroenke are certainly valid and they're something all right-minded Tiger fans have considered if they were really paying attention at all back then. It's undeniable that they were not good enough to be there, they didn't deserve to be there, and they shouldn't have seen any minutes whatsoever.

(In my mind) It's all about the money. There was a cartoon in The Maneater my Freshman year that had Berardini and Matt Lawrence on with the caption reading (something all the lines of) "Finally, two white guys on the basketball team and neither of them have Wal-Mart money."

Seriously, the freaking Mizzou Arena was originally, as you said, called the goddamn Paige Laurie Sports Arena while the dumb bitch was cheating her way through USC. Halfway across the fucking country and they name the Sports Arena after her. What a fucking fiasco that was.

I don't know why, but I always get angry thinking about it. Mizzou Arena is such an awesome name in comparison.

Seriously, have we turned into what we've hated for so long; Husker fans?

Sounds like a lot of Mizzou fans have forgotten our values; BE AFRAID! Could we win the B12 this year? Sure. Could we lose to ISU in Ames. Yep. If you've been a Mizzou fan for a long time, you're scared to death you're going to shit the bed against Nevada.

The fact that some of us Tiger fans now can't see that we don't have the best players at every position in every sport is frightening. Some people need to set the Kool-aid down.

Dude, I am so worried about that Nevada game, I'm not even kidding. I saw them play twice last year and they are not a bad team at all.

I don't think the Laurie/Kroenke boys got their scholarships illegally but I do think it's very likely that there was a lot of pressure on Quin from the higher-ups to go ahead and make them an offer. It wouldn't be surprising at all that something fishy would be going on underneath the table considering the history of that whole regime.

And I'm glad there are reasonable Tiger fans out there who can assess the team and players objectively while still supporting the school. Being a fan doesn't mean blindly supporting the home team. It means wanting what's best for the team/school.

This is why I talk about chicks and booze. They are never bad.

Sleezy's posts explain why we're big with drunks and lezbos.

Mizzourah: Where beer, bitches, and pigskin lives.

Experts agree that's an untapped demographic that most bloggers have yet to reach. We appear to be ahead of the curve. Keep up the good work fellas.

I just feel the need to say that I hate the way Tiger Board is set up. Seriously, is it 1998 again? Freaking get Invision or something. Something where I don't have don't have to open up each individual reply.

Also, there's a reason why the drunk lesbian demographic hasn't been tapped.

When you have a name like sleezy, what else are you supposed to write about aside from beer and bitches?

Big Head said...

I'm working the drunk lesbian market. Trust me, everytime I get turned down by a drunk chick at a bar, she's gotta be into girls. I mean, look at me!!! With my uhhhh..."weekend research", I've figured out there are a ton of drunk lesbians out there. Yeah, that's what you get for not being into me!

You get what you came for with Sleezy.

s dub, if you will go to settings when you are looking at one of the message boards and change your settings to listed--chronological instead of listed--threaded you can change that. I didn't find that out until this last year but it makes reading the message boards much easier.

Thanks much.
