Former Tiger hoopster Jimmy McKinney is the star of the Patrick Rooney's film "Streetballers." Coincidentally, Rooney is a KU grad. The film finished second at the 2008 Hollywood Black Film Festival in the category for best feature film. Next Thursday it will make its St. Louis debut in at the Tivoli Theatre.
McKinney's character is a junior college athlete from North St. Louis who discovers cultural differences through his relationship with a white teammate from the South Side while trying to survive in the world of college athletics.
Sounds intriguing. No word on how it compares to the greatest urban basketball movie of all time, "He Got Game." It does make sense that McKinney would be a good fit to play a basketball player in a movie. Nobody looked better in a basketball uniform than he did when he was a Tiger and his game, if ultimately disappointing, was soooo smooth it made you always think he could be better than he actually was.

Yeah, so smooth until he took a fade away jumper three feet away from the basket and miss all the damn time.
Something tells me that McKinney will not be the next Jesus Shuttlesworth. No sir.
Gotta be better than Darius Miles in 'Perfect Score'.
At least that movie had a Scarlett Johansson crotch-shot.
Yep.
Very true. Something Van Wilder was lacking.
Yeah McKinney was very frustrating to watch a lot of the time. But there's one guy who was probably hurt more than anyone by the Snyder regime. We probably had expectations for him that were too high to begin with but then he was misused and forced to play out of position from the get go.
But watch the tape of the game he played at Lawrence his freshman year. He looked so good when he was clicking.

There's the website for the movie. Not exactly a surprise, but the acting is terrible. I'll see it if I can see it for free. Kinda brutal at the start of the trailer. Avert thine eyes if you're not a big fan of seeing little kids getting hit by cars. Hard.
On the IMDB page, user MSK (who I'm sure is the writer, actor, everything guy) writes that "Streetballers is for basketball, what Field of Dreams was for baseball."
So now we're going to have to compare Jimmy McKinney's acting talents with Ray Liotta and not just Ray "Jesus Shuttlesworth" Allen.
Okay the movie looks pretty awful. And I thought the kid getting hit by the car was more lame than anything.
But McKinney still looks good.
